What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is a dry coating process utilizing finely ground particles of pigment and resin (Plastic). The powder is sprayed through a special gun that electro statically charges the powder with a positive charge. The part to be coated is grounded through the racking system and therefore negatively charged.

The coated part is then heated to 350-375 degrees F. for 15 minutes or more. This heating process cross links the polymer creating a uniform, durable, high quality finish that is resistant to scratches, corrosion, abrasion, chemicals, and detergents. Best of all the part is ready for use directly from the oven, no further hardening or curing time is necessary.

With an array of different colors and textures used to finish hundreds of parts and products; the appliance industry uses powder coatings on refrigerators, washer tops and lids, dryer drums, air conditioner cabinets, and freezer cabinets.

The architectural, and highway market uses powder coating on light poles, guard rails, post, road signs, and fencing. The lawn and garden market uses it to coat most metal patio furniture, lawn mowers, wheelbarrows, snow blowers, snow shovels, barbecue grills, propane tanks, and garden tools. The automotive industry uses it on rims, frames, and areas were high heat and exposure to the elements make wet paint unsuitable. The aircraft industry is now started to use powder coating on aircraft frames, wheels, fairings, inspection plates, and in many locations specified by the aircraft manufacturer.
